Finding and/or creating sample technology enhanced items can be challenging for teachers, yet it's imperative that students receive ample practice. This exercise may either be used as part of a formal assessment or as a review. It pairs the poem "A Short Story" with the article, "Can Red Wood Ants Predict Earthquakes?" The first two questions relate to the article (using context clues and making inferences), while the next two (determining text structures and analyzing figurative language) correspond with the poem. The fifth question asks students to compare and contrast both texts using a Venn diagram.
Due to copyright restrictions, only the technology enhanced items are included. However, a space has been provided for both the poem and the article. The file is also a Word document, as opposed to a PDF document, so you will be able to edit it for your convenience.
