Instead of the everyday Jeopardy! Powerpoint review, why not get your students up and competing against each other while learning and reviewing their material?
I have created this "Amazing Race" review activity that is similar to the game show to get the students involved and interacting with each other.
How the game works:
There are 15 different clues (all formatted nicely) that I laminate and distribute to groups of 2-3. Every group will start off with a different clue . Once they have the answers, they rush to the front (where I sit with the answer key) and I initial their answer sheet. Usually, there will be a line at the front with all the "stations" setup. If a group gets it wrong, they will have to go to the back of the line. It will be a very active class but the time will go by fast as the students will be having tremendous fun.
The clues do not simply involve "rote" memorizing clues, rather some will involve "Singing the prefixes of naming covalent molecules" to "Doing a interpretive dance to covalent and ionic bonding with your partner" to "Manipulate and describe types of reaction with various items around the classroom". There is one clue where I have the students "Tweet" about a description.
The activity is to get students involved, engaged and active with their partners while learning the concept.
Some of the activities will allow only 1 partner out of the two to participate so not the same student will answer all the questions. All the students will get 10/10 with a completed answer sheet to encourage full completion while 1st place team will get additional 2 points of 12/10. This is up to you.
There is a final clue which involves more of the "nitty gritty" details of the unit.
If you don't want to use this template for chemistry, you can always change up the clues to your liking.
