This packet is designed to facilitate a small group novel study.
Tips for use:
FIRST - Meet with small group to discuss questions from the previous chapter. Allow pairs of students to discuss the questions first, then share out to the group (I assign "recorder" and "reporter" roles to each pair so they have a purpose and will be prepared to share with the group). I have found that this allows for greater participation...less blank stares than a teacher-centered approach! :)
SECOND - Front load vocabulary in the upcoming chapter and read each discussion questions with the group (to set a purpose for reading).
THIRD - Send them off to read the next chapter and record responses to the discussion questions on sticky notes!
This packet includes:
~ Common Core indicators that will be graded throughout the novel study
~ Key vocabulary and definitions for front-loading
~ Discussion questions organized by chapter (including 1-2 vocabulary words for students to practice using context clues)
~ Graphic organizer to analyze the differences in the points of view of characters
~ Point of View written response
~ Space to record their own questions as they read
