This resource will get advanced high school students thinking about some of the foundations of American society through the lenses of some of the most prominent Americans throughout our history. Students will sign up to research one of the Americans listed and adopt that persona throughout the rest of the seminar process. Students will be expected to answer a variety of questions about current events like the societal role of law enforcement, government influence, minority perspectives of America, etc. as their persona and will be able to talk about these hot-button issues in a safe space AS their persona in small group seminar circles. I have included a sign-up sheet that you can modify for the number of students you have in class, and you can use this to create the groups pretty easily. You can choose to let students rotate groups to hear different perspectives or keep them in the same groups. Either way, this will take roughly 90 minutes on the day of the seminar. This was used in an English class but can easily be adapted to a Social Studies classroom.
