Jefferson Davis, the first and only President of the Confederate States of America, was a planter, politician and soldier. His birth took place just 100 miles from and 8 months earlier than President Abraham Lincoln’s. Davis was the 10th and youngest child of Revolutionary War soldier Samuel Davis and his wife Jane. Davis's uncles were soldiers in the American Revolutionary War, and all 3 of his older brothers fought in the War of 1812. His grandfather was a public servant to the U.S. southern colonies.

He had distinguished military and political careers having served as a leader in the Mexican-American War where he drew praise from future president of the United States Zack Taylor. he served in the US congress where he was known to have a powerful persuasive manner. he never wavered from his position on supporting states rights and accepting slavery as part of the US economy.

He served as the only president of the CSA. At first he was popular but that all changed when the south began to pile up military losses. he was later captured when the south fell, imprisoned but never brought to trial.
