This exciting and challenging WebQuest allows students to explore an interactive History.com website to obtain important facts, figures, and information about an array of topics related to the American Civil War. The site has numerous sub-levels that focus on topics such as technology, battles, places/events, and culture, as well as examining both Union and Confederate leaders and strategies. It also allows the student to explore such topics as the underlying and immediate causes of this devastating war, its human costs, weapons and the daily life of soldiers.
The WebQuest is five pages long, contains 7 subsections with 60 short answer questions. A teacher guide is included (additional five pages). This activity can be used in class by individuals or small groups, or may be used independently as a homework or research assignment. The broad array of information is a perfect way to launch a study of the American Civil War, use as an independent graded assignment, or may be used as a Civil War unit review.
