A fun, engaging mini-project for a unit on life in the American colonies! This 6-pg. packet asks students to invent a fake colonist, and develop a backstory for their colonist through written responses to questions. Students also must write a diary entry documenting a day in the colonist's life, and a letter persuading a friend or family member in England to come to the 13 colonies. Includes a grading sheet for easy grading. My students loved this activity, and created characters ranging from southern plantation slaves to wealthy New England merchants. Bring Common Core Writing into the content area in an exciting and engaging way!
