The attached file is a week-long lesson plan designed to go with the first grade Common Core Curriculum Map Unit "American Contributions." In my progression, this would be week 1; however they do not have to be taught in this particular order. This lesson plan is a 5 day plan along with a student packet with a cover page and student activity pages. There is also a link to Brainpopjr.com if you have access to it. I have included both PDF and Word versions of each document if you would like to make changes to them.
The plans include: focus standards, vocabulary, essential questions, I can statements and technology links.
The focus standards are:
RI.1.1. Ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
RI.1.3. Describe the connection between two individuals, events, ideas, or pieces of information in a text.
In these lessons students will learn about George Washington and the beginning of the United States of America. They will learn to construct written responses to questions about the events in George Washington’s life. They will use a timeline and answer questions about biographies of George Washington.
The books I used for the lesson are (these could be changed)
“A Picture Book of George Washington” by David A. Adler
“George Washington and the General’s Dog” by Frank Murphy (lesson could be done with one copy, but could be done in groups with multiple copies)
“Rookie Biographies: George Washington” by Wil Mara (lesson could be done with one copy, but could be done in groups with multiple copies)
