The attached file is a week-long lesson plan designed to go with the first grade Common Core Curriculum Map Unit "American Contributions." In my progression, this would be week 3; however they do not have to be taught in this particular order. This lesson plan is a 5 day plan along with a student packet with a cover page and student activity pages.. I have included both PDF and Word versions of each document if you would like to make changes to them.
The plans include: focus standards, vocabulary, essential questions, and I can statements.
The focus standards are:
RI.1.7. Use the illustrations and details in a text to describe its key ideas.
In these lessons will learn about Paul Revere by reading books about his life. They will be able to discuss how the illustrations and photographs in a text change their thinking or add to their understanding of a text. They will focus on writing written responses to those types of questions.
The books I used for the lesson are:
“A Picture Book of Paul Revere” by David A. Adler
“John, Paul, George and Ben” by Lane Smith
“Rookie Biographies: Paul Revere” by Wil Mara (lesson could be done with one copy, but could be done in groups with multiple copies)
