The attached file is a two week-long lesson plan designed to go with the first grade Common Core Curriculum Map Unit "American Contributions." In my progression, this would be weeks 4 and 5; however they do not have to be taught in this particular order. This lesson plan is a 10 day plan along with a student packet with a cover page and student activity pages. There are also links to various website and videos if you have access to it. I have included both PDF and Word versions of each document if you would like to make changes to them.
The plans include: focus standards, vocabulary, essential questions, I can statements and technology links.
The focus standards are:
RL.1.1. Ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
RL.1.2 Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson.
RL.1.3 Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details.
During this novel study, students will learn about Laura Ingalls Wilder and read her book Little House in the Big Woods. They will answer questions and complete activities based on what they learn in the story as well as finishing the study by making a model log cabin.
The books I used for the lesson are (the biography could be changed)
Laura Ingalls Wilder by Wil Mara
Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder
