Give your students the chance to express their own artistic abilities while studying early American authors and artists!
Imagine that you are in charge of publicity for a three-day American Culture Fair in 1850! The fair features presentations by poets, writers of fiction, and nonfiction, and artists.
Create a poster advertising the fair.
Highlight (talk about or draw):
At least one individual who will present his or her work
Descriptions of their style
Samples of his or her work (recreate drawings or write out some of the words)
Use Ch. 14, section 2 for information, art, and quotes. (also see slides and handouts)
Chapter and page reference works with Creating America textbook. Modifiable for other books.
This project is even more motivating when conducted as an "Art Contest," sold separately.
