Prove It- This is a prediction strategy. Student make predictions as a class based on the title and book cover. The teacher writes and numbers a few of the predictions onto the board. Then, the children will preview the section of the book that will be read that day. Finally, after reading, the students will share which predictions were true and which were not.
Use partner reading for students having difficulty comprehending the story. The comprehension questions keep students on track and focus their attention on important points in the text.
I Can Make Connections- When children make connections between the book and their own lives, they become invested in the story.
Examples of Cause & Effect- Our world is full of cause and effect! Your children can analyze cause and effect while reading "Meet Kaya".
What's the Order?- Some things can be done in different orders, and other things cannot. The students will retell a story in the order the event occurred.
What Happens Next- Sometimes kids (and adults) are disappointed with the story's ending. The children can write and illustrate what happens next to make their voice heard and create a new ending.
