I have been teaching American Government for ages and I try to find new ways to engage students with certain topics. Teaching Bureaucracy and the concept of Iron Triangles / Regulations became a lot easier with this activity. Students are paired up and given a scenario in which they work for a particular bureaucratic agency and must write new regulations that pertain and follow specific legislation. They work to identify and create an iron triangle and then present their finding to the class.
My students have always enjoyed this activity and my scores prove it.
