Product Description
Political tolerance is defined as a willingness to extend basic constitutional rights -- the right to speak, to publish, to run for office -- to offensive groups and ideas. History is littered with examples of political repression made possible by widespread intolerance among the mass citizenry.
Students are guided through a three-part activity that first asks them reflective questions while watching a 12 minute Ted Talk “Tolerance is a Dirty Word” from Andrew Sayer. (Links/wed address are included within the pdf file)
Part two requires them to identify how politically tolerant they are and then assigns them to watch a politial commentary segment from either Fox news or MSNBC and complete a short evaulation in regards to one of the more ideologically biased moderators.
Lastly, students mesh the more Idealic interpretation with a more pragmatic example that millions see in the press everyday.
