Dear Fellow Educator:
Trying to successfully integrate current events within class time is often difficult. How much time should we devote to it? How can assess whether or not students can understand the relevancy of what they are learning in class with connect it to what’s going on in our country? There are a total of eight different forms (56 news days)
I have used these forms for discussing current events for several years in my classes. Each of the forms has different topics in which students must complete both during and after we view a news video clip online.
The idea is to watch various sources of news. Most streamed video only last 2-3 minutes but it’s entirely up to you. I try to watch various sources on news sites from streaming sites you find on the internet. Students complete the form as they watch the video steam and you decide how much time you devote to discussion.
You can spend 3 minutes or use it as a springboard for a longer discussion.
