Description

Celebrate New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day with these holiday posters! The 4 easy-to-assemble posters teach students about these popular American holidays' origins and customs. Written as acrostic poems, the posters are great for teaching about the cultural traditions of the holidays and they are also great models when teaching a poetry unit. Writing and grammar activities plus 5 suggestions for orally discussing the holidays are included, too.

✓ Please note:

* These posters are part of my American Holiday Posters in Acrostic Poem Format with Writing Activities resource, which you can find HERE. The complete set includes 16 posters plus writing and grammar tasks, suggestions for speaking practice, and templates for students to write their own acrostic holiday poems.

* The Earth Day poster is also available as a free sampler but it does not contain the writing and grammar tasks that are included in the paid product; if you would like to download the poster only, please click HERE.

Two writing tasks are included:

* Students invent a holiday and write an acrostic poem about it.

* Students select and then describe how they celebrate one of the holidays.

Other materials in this resource include:

* A grammar task to rewrite the text on the posters by including the definite article "the".

* Blank acrostic poem templates for each holiday so students can write their own poems about the holidays.

* A page listing the ELA Common Core standards, for the convenience of teachers working in Common Core states.

The discussion topics can be used with both native English speakers and English Language Learners, including ELLs at a beginning level of proficiency.

Laminate the posters and you will brighten up your classroom or hallway for years to come!
