These Spring holiday posters are great for teaching about the cultural traditions of St. Patrick’s Day, Earth Day, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. You can also use the posters as models of acrostic poems when teaching a poetry unit. Writing and grammar tasks plus 5 suggestions for discussing the holidays orally are also included.

Two writing tasks are included:

a) Students invent a holiday and write an acrostic poem about it.

b) Students choose a holiday and then describe how they celebrate it.

You can give your students a grammar task by telling them to rewrite the text on the posters to include the definite article "the.”

Templates for each holiday are provided so students can write their own acrostic poems about them.

The discussion topics can be used with English Language Learners, including ELLs at a beginning level of proficiency, as well as native English speakers.

A page listing the ELA Common Core standards this resource helps address is included for your convenience if you teach in a Common Core state.

If you laminate the posters, you’ll brighten up your classroom or hallway for years to come!
