PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Just how did the United States rise to the status of a world power? The answer to that question is complex, but it all started in the late 1800s when the nation embarked upon a series of acquisitions during the Age of New Imperialism.

This electronic question set covers what I call "The Basics" of American Imperialism, helping to provide a strong foundation-level understanding of the "world power" status to come for the U.S. Through a series of multiple-choice questions, students will address issues such as:

--The historical context in which American imperialism began
--The motives and driving forces fueling American expansionism
--The acquisition of Alaska
--The overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy and acquisition of Alaska
--The role of Alfred T. Mahan in helping the nation see the need for a strong, modern navy

Contents of the download zip file:

--Two Examview question sets (.tst) files:
----One is a comprehensive set of 56 Questions and includes 14 "summary questions" at the end.
----One is a scaled down set of just the 14 summary questions -- perfect for EL students or others who need a differentiated approach to learning.

To assist with student learning, the questions appear in logical order in the Examview file. This means that all the questions relating to Alaska appear together, for example, with the exception of the summary ("big idea") questions that appear at the end of the set. This organization allows students to put ideas together in context and helps them master the material more easily.

The summary questions are specifically intended to help teachers address the need for differentiated learning in the classroom. These questions zero in on a few key ideas that struggling students may need to master before they move onto more detailed levels of knowledge. Because these same ideas provide a good summary of concepts for all students, however, they are located at the end of the Examview file.

The summary questions also appear as a file of their own so teachers who want to split them off will find that this particular task is already done!

HOW CAN I USE AN EXAMVIEW FILE?

Examview files are great for teachers using electronic delivery of instruction because they can be used in a variety of ways:

--on PCs, using the Examview Test Player that comes with every installation of Examview
--with handheld clickers using eInstruction's CPS software
--with iPads or handheld clickers using eInstruction's Insight 360 software
--with a variety of LMS (learning management systems) that allow for computerized course delivery. Just use Examview export the questions into a format your LMS will accept (Blackboard 7.1+ is one of the most common) and you can use them with services such as mybigcampus.com
--in traditional paper-and-pencil format by printing out the tests

LOOKING FOR AN EASY WAY TO JUST PRINT OUT WORKSHEETS INSTEAD?

If you want to be able to easily customize the questions, this Examview American Imperialism product is your best bet, since the .tst files here are fully editable. You can add new questions, for example -- or split the existing ones into separate topics such as a test / worksheet just on the overthrow of Hawaii's monarchy.

If you just want to print out pre-made worksheets, however, then the PDF version of these American Imperialism question sets would probably be more convenient for you. You can find that product here:
