I developed this project as a fun and engaging way for my US History students to develop their writing skills in preparation for the New York State History Regents. The project involves individual and group research followed by a group Document Based Essay and an individual Thematic Essay. I teach in the ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) setting and have a mix of Students with Disabilities, English Language Learners, General Education students, and Honors level students in every one of my classes. This project was designed so that students could work in homogeneous or heterogeneous groups. Each activity is differentiated in a way that every students can receive the level of challenge or scaffolding they need. It takes us about two weeks to complete the entire project but it can be easily shortened or lengthened as needed.
