This lesson was written with preparing for standardized testing with my 11th graders who have not had formal classroom instruction on the Early American History. It is meant to give them a broad overview of the era and a sample of a writer, Anne Bradstreet. It is composed of two poems, the two compacts of this period, and a brief outline of the Puritan theology. It includes multiple choice and short answer questions that reach comprehension as well as literary devices found in the poem. It was my intention to simply provide a snapshot of the Early American period and follow through with questions that might be seen on EOC (End of Course) tests or GED as my students are diverse.
