Looking for resources about American popular music? What about for students to be able to comprehend how music reflects the times? This set will introduce your students to the music that was popular during the 1930’s. You will receive a slide presentation (in pdf form), 2 separate worksheets, 10 different exit tickets, 2 listening glyphs (2 versions of each), 7 graphic organizers and a workstation sign. YouTube links (via the Safe Share site which means no commercials) are included so your students can listen (and sometimes actually watch) the performer who made a song popular. You can use this as a large group lesson or split your students into groups to learn about different decades via workstations.
The slide presentation (pdf form) includes:
♪ Brief description of the time period
♪ Advancements of music technology (amplifying sound, microphones, jukebox)
♪ Song Titles/Performers/YouTube links to the “top 20 hits” of the decade
♪ Popular forms during the decade - (Jazz [Swing, Big Band], Folk [Country, Western, Hillbilly, Bluegrass], Crooners & Traditional Pop)
♪ What was happening in the world during the decade
