PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This American Revolution booklet that students will make will provide them the background knowledge necessary to understand the buildup to the Revolutionary War. I like to have students investigate these events on their own so they understand that this time period was a series of events that left war inevitable.

These events that lead up to the Revolutionary War are critical for students to comprehend what was happening in the colonies during this time period so they understand that the Declaration of Independence wasn't the beginning of the revolution, but the end of a long road of tension between the colonists and England starting at the end of the French and Indian War.

This booklet is set up for you in both Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher so students can pick which program to use depending on which program they can use if they have a computer at home and would like to work on it outside of school. These could also be printed out for students to write on instead of type.

The booklet is set up multiple ways for you in color and in black & white (with picture in color):

COLOR
-ONE event per page in Word and Publisher
-TWO events per page in Word (students cut out)
-FOUR events per page in Publisher (students cut out)

BLACK & WHITE
-ONE event per page in Word and Publisher
-TWO events per page in Word (students cut out)
-FOUR events per page in Publisher (students cut out)

The events included that happened between 1763 and 1776 are:

1. The French and Indian War (example included)
2. The Proclamation Line
3. The Stamp Act
4. The Declaratory Act
5. The Townshend Acts
6. The Boston Massacre
7. The Tea Act
8. The Boston Tea Party
9. The Intolerable Acts
10. The First Continental Congress
11. The Battles of Lexington & Concord
12. The Second Continental Congress
13. The Declaration of Independence

Students will research on their own using their textbook, encyclopedias, internet sources, or other means at your discretion. Students will give a brief overview of what the event was, and then after you teach about these events if you so choose, they can include why these events were important. I emphasize to students that the reason why they were important need an example if all they plan on giving for a reason was, "because it angered colonists."

I have found this to be a useful tool in helping students gain an understanding of how these events were a wonderful demonstration of cause and effect as well as how people respond to taxation without representation.
