This project about the American Revolution is designed to encourage student choice, as well as provide simple differentiation, and highlight student strengths. Using manila file folders, students are given the task of creating books that explain the events leading up the war, as well as the results of the war.
Students are given a chart of 12 HOT (higher order thinking)options, and asked to choose 3 of them. These include:
-Analyzing key players
-Comparing and contrasting
-Sequencing important events
-Evaluating how war has evolved over time
-Creating journal entries and artistic representations
-Understanding the points of view of both sides
On the front of their file folders, students can create a cover for their projects. Complete option 1 on the inside left, option 2 on the inside right, and option 3 on the back.
After completion, instruct students to assess their own work. What did they do well? What could be done better?
Students may even assess one another, following specific teacher guidelines to ensure positive critiquing.
