This project works best when used over the course of a full unit on the American Revolution. Early in your unit, ask students to use the first page to design an "American Revolution Character." Students can choose patriot, loyalist or fence sitter perspectives. Then, after studying each major event leading to the Revolution, have students journal about the event from the perspective of their character. There are lots of opportunities for extension into discussion, debate and skit creation using these characters. Finally, students write a short persuasive letter to a friend or family member to convince them to join their side.
