The driving question of this project is "In what ways did STEM affect survival during the American Revolutionary War?" This project has students start by brainstorming all the different aspects/concepts of the letters S, T, E and M. Then, students connect those topics to everyday survival topics. For example, science can be connected to disappearing ink, engineering can be connected to transportation, chemicals can be connected to clothing and technology can be connected to inventions. Students choose three topics they'd like to research. They take three notes on each topic. Then, they choose their final topic and discuss how they can create an authentic end product. Their end product needs to be either a lab (experiment) or a 3D product. In this packet you will find a web for brainstorming, a research sheet for the three topics, a calendar sheet, a rubric and two pages of student produced ideas for labs and 3D products.
