Product Description

Learn about the causes and major events of the Revolutionary War in this unit that includes a 12-page nonfiction text, reading questions, a lapbook or interactive notebook pieces, and a unit test. This complex text will provide your students with information about the causes, major figures and consequences of the American Revolution including the French and Indian War, the Royal Proclamation of 1763, the Stamp Act, the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Townsend Acts, the Intolerable Acts, Thomas Paine and Common Sense, Patriots and Loyalists, the Continental Congress, the Declaration of Independence, major battles of the Revolutionary War, and the Treaty of Paris.

This is the fifth unit in a series of units for the fifth grade social studies standards. Depending on your state standards, this unit is also appropriate for fourth grade and sixth grade.

The informational text is perfect for meeting your Common Core ELA Standards. The text will provide your students with a complex, rigorous text and an anticipation guide and reading questions. Before reading each section, students complete the anticipation guide to activate background knowledge. After reading, they check the anticipation guide and answer a few Common Core-aligned questions. If you are teaching social studies without a textbook, you need this unit! If you are integrating social studies into your ELA reading block, you need this unit!

As your students read and learn about the Revolutionary War, this American Revolution Unit gives your students two different options to show and practice what they have learned. They can complete 13 different pieces to make a lapbook, or use the pieces in their interactive notebook. These pieces are great for formative assessment as you work through the unit.

This unit specifically aligns with the Florida Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for 5th grade social studies, but also aligns with many other state standards and grade levels.
