This Revolutionary War Vocabulary
resource includes 10 vocabulary activities/games to help students develop a deep sense of understanding for each word. It's a wonderful introduction to an American Revolution Unit to help build some background. I chose words that I thought were the most general and common (but not necessarily known by students) when studying the American Revolution. I use these activities to begin my unit of study, and the words pop up in several places- shared reading, guided reading, social studies curriculum, novels, videos, etc.
The words that are included are:
Patriot, Loyalist, Redcoat, militia, rebel, repeal, boycott, treaty, Parliament, allies, delegate, minuteman
The activities have been developed to help students make real, authentic connections with words that go beyond basic "recalling the definitions." Some games are modeled after real board games (Scattergories and Apples to Apples). You will need an Apples to Apples game to do that activity. Otherwise, all of the rest of the activities are prepared for you. There is also an explanation of all activities.
Included in this set:
- Cover Page
- Directions for all 10 activities
- 10 activities/games s (Applause Applause, Apples to Apples, Cloze Passages, Examples vs. Non-Examples, I Have Who Has Game, Keyword Method, RIVET, Scattergories Game, Swat-a-Word, and Word Associations)
