PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students love illustrating these 40 American Revolution vocabulary word wall cards to create their own Revolutionary War Word Wall or Vocabulary Quilt! Each card has a vocabulary word or historic person from the American Revolution along with a definition or description. Students choose a card (or 2) to illustrate to show their understanding of the vocab word. Post the completed cards in alphabetical order to create a word wall, or place the cards together like quilt squares to create a "vocabulary quilt". Both ways of displaying the cards creates an awesome reference for students as they work through your American Revolution Social Studies unit.

Set Up
Print the “quilt pieces” in color or black and white. Cut in quarters to separate the four cards on each page. Place one card at each desk for students to preview before choosing. I like to give students 30 seconds to read each card and then call, “Switch!” Students then move to the next desk and read the next card. Students can make note of their top card choices, or simply keep them in mind. (Alternatively, you may simply assign a card to each student.) This doubles as an excellent vocabulary review activity.

Student Task
Students illustrate their quilt piece using markers, colored pencils, or crayons. Encourage them to research related images if support is needed. I have my students create a border around their piece, which makes each piece pop!

Presentation
Place the pieces together like quilt blocks to create a Revolutionary War Vocabulary Quilt on your bulletin board of in the hallway for student reference and to showcase their learning.
