Aaron Burr was the son of Aaron Burr, Sr., the 2nd president of the College of NJ (Princeton) as well as the grandson of Jonathan Edwards. In 1769, at the age of 13, Burr enrolled at the graduating summa cum laude in only 3 years as a student of theology. He eventually switched his career track to study law.
He represented himself well in the American Revolutionary War serving under both Benedict Arnold and George Washington, achieving the rank of major. In 1800, Burr ran for the U.S. presidency with Thomas Jefferson. Because they each received the same amount of electoral votes, members of the House of Representatives were left to determine the winner. Alexander Hamilton's opposition to Burr gave the election to Jefferson.
The is best known for his duel with Hamilton that lead to Hamilton's death and Burr's political demise. Later he was charged with a conspiracy against the United States and was convicted.
