This is a 20 slide, highly animated, power point presentation on the American Revolutionary War, the Battle of Yorktown. Each of the slides are editable so you can change it to fit your individual needs.

After 1778, the main theater of war shifted to the South as the British concentrated on trying to reestablish control of that area. Lord Charles Cornwallis was given over-all command of British forces in VA and in late May and early June led them on raids deep into the state.

In August 1781, Washington learned that Cornwallis' army was encamped near Yorktown, VA. After discussing options with his French ally, de Rochambeau, Washington decided to quietly move his army away from NYC with the goal of crushing Cornwallis' isolated force.

Feeling his position collapsing, Cornwallis wrote to Clinton on October 10 calling for aid. The British situation was made worse by a smallpox outbreak within the town. With the enemy growing nearer, Cornwallis again wrote to Clinton for help and described his situation as "very critical." Not getting the help he needed, and out of ammunition for his guns and unable to shift his army, Cornwallis decided to open negotiations with Washington. With no other choice, Cornwallis complied and the final surrender documents were signed on October 19th .

The culmination of the Yorktown Campaign, proved to be the last major land battle of the war, as the surrender by Cornwallis, and the capture of both him and his army, prompted the British government to negotiate an end to the conflict.
