Daniel Morgan, was a notorious guerrilla fighter and American hero of the southern theater during the American Revolutionary War. He was very rebellious as a young man left his native NJ, where he was born in 1736.

He hated the British with a passion after an officer during the French and Indian struck him with the flat of his sword, so Morgan promptly knocked the man out. For his impertinence, Morgan was punished with 500 lashes to the point of death. He survived the ordeal, carrying his scars and his disdain the rest of his life. His hatred of the British knew no bounds became the motivating factor to punish the British for what they had done to him.

When asked to form Morgan’s Rifle company, he gladly agreed. One of Morgan’s most valuable qualities as a commander was his ability to think beyond the confines of the accepted standards of warfare. It was his tactics that wrote the “first book” on sniping in America.

After performing so well in the Northern campaigns of the war he was recruited to help with the Southern campaigns. It was he who trapped British Colonel Banastre Tarleton and his Legion of Dragoons. Morgan emerged victorious and secured his reputation as a skilled military tactician.
