Product Description
This is a 16 slide, highly animated, power point presentation on the American Revolutionary War – Key Figures - Peter Francisco, The Virginia Giant. Each of the slides are editable so you can modify the slides to the presentation as needed.

The American Revolution produced a veritable collection of colorful characters. One of the most unsung heroes of the war was the 6’ 6” tall Peter Francisco. George Washington stated “Without him we would have lost two crucial battles, perhaps the War, and with it our freedom. He was truly a One-Man Army.”
Others called him the “Virginia Giant” and the “Giant of the Revolution.”

Best known for wielding a six-foot broadsword Francisco gained mythic status at the Battle of Camden, SC in 1780. When the American line was collapsing, Francisco spied an American cannon, mired in mud, about to be captured by the British. Surging ahead into the fray, Francisco beat off attackers and hefted the 1,100 pound cannon barrel on his shoulders carrying it off the field of battle.

After the American Revolution the legend of Peter Francisco continued to evolve in American memory.
Like many Revolutionary War veterans Francisco’s life was hard after the war. He was married 3 times with 2 wives preceding him to the grave. With his 3 wives he had 6 children. His life eventually, as was the case with many of his revolutionary brothers lapsed into poverty.

He remains a compelling figure in American history and the fact that in 1975, he was he was commemorated for this feat with a United States postage stamp in its Bicentennial Series, “Contributors to the Cause.” There are also several monuments erected in his honor, and dates set aside in 4 states in his memory gives merit to his exploits.
