This product was developed as a supplement for teaching deaf and hard of hearing students using the Reading Milestones (c) reading curriculum. You do not HAVE TO use this curriculum to use this product but the sequence of vocabulary introduction matches that curriculum.
Also, you will notice that the vocabulary is written in a way that introduces English in a very structured way. The verbs used at this point in the program are in present progressive form. This structure allows students to easily create grammatically correct sentences.
Words included in this product: yak, shirt, room, farm, barn, cow, hen, chalk, hall, skunk, pill, sick, bed, bat, wall, small, big, red, black, pink, brown, fat, gets, sews, hangs, claps, prints, throws, hits, onto, when.
Important note about the differences between ASL and English. The signs provided are static. However, in signed language, the signs change according to context. It is important that the students are able to differentiate signs according to context. The signs provided are just one representation of the English context.
I hope you love using these cards. If you would like to see a video representation of these signs, please log on to my YouTube Channel
(video coming soon)
If you teach beginning English readers who use sign language as their main method of communication, please consider checking out my other ASL resources.
