This 5-day mini unit is a great way to teach about some of our American symbols. Over a week-long period, students will learn about the American flag, the Statue of Liberty, the bald eagle, and the Washington Monument. Included in this unit:
-Unit Plan: The 5-day unit plan includes a detailed description of what will be taught each day. Within each lesson there is a materials list, an objective, and step-by-step lesson instructions. These come in both color and printable (ink friendly) versions.
-Activity & Activity Instructions: Each day students will create a page to go in their American Symbols booklet. Besides the pages and templates needed for each day, there is also a teacher example that can be printed out and displayed (much easier than creating one yourself!).
For each activity, there is a detailed list of supplies, an objective, directions, and teacher notes. These instructions come in both color and printable versions. Also, where it is possible, I’ve labeled the activity pieces with instructions for copying and printing.
-Read Alouds: I’m a big believer in using quality read alouds to engage students’ interest, and so within each lesson there is a great book that will help students’ understanding of the concepts being taught. There is a list of these read alouds to help when you are getting books from the library (or Amazon).
-Follow-Up Worksheets: Each day there are follow-up worksheets that allow you to extend the learning beyond the initial lesson and activity. There are answer keys included for each worksheet.

**I understand not everyone teaches the same American symbols. Please check my store for an editable version of the American Symbols (tab) booklet!
