American Symbols PowerPoint Slideshow (22 Slides)
This slideshow includes information about the following American symbols: American flag, Statue of Liberty, White House, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, Liberty Bell, Mount Rushmore, and bald eagle
Pages 5-6 - Interactive Folder
Materials to make an interactive folder using a 12”x18” sheet of construction paper
Pages 7-19 - Little Books
The readers on p. 7-8 and 9-10 are designed to be printed or copied two-sided. In that way, each child will only need one sheet of paper per book. Make sure that you set your printer to landscape so that one side will not end up upside down! These two readers are differentiated—choose whichever is a better fit for your students.
The reader on p. 11-12 is a matching, cut and glue reader. This should be printed single-sided.
The reader on p. 13-14 is a Pledge of Allegiance close read activity. Print it two-sided and have students fold it in half. On the inside, work with students to read the pledge, discuss (and take notes on) new vocabulary, and make an illustration.
The book on p. 15-19 is designed to be a place for students to do some writing about American symbols. Depending on the level of your students, you may wish to spread this work out over several days. It is a good follow-up to the PowerPoint slideshow and/or the anchor chart (p.18-19).
Pages 20-21 – Anchor Chart Sample and Elements
Page 20 shows a sample anchor chart and page 21 contains printable elements to make a large anchor chart with your class. Complete this a little at a time as your class learns about the various American symbols.
Pages 22-26 – Word Wall Picture Cards, Writing Paper
Display these word wall cards to assist your students in writing about American Symbols.
Pages 27-48 – Duplicate of PowerPoint Slideshow
If you do not have access to PowerPoint, you may wish to project these PDF pages. The PowerPoint slideshow is zipped with this file.
