American Tall Tales & Legends are part of American Folklore that has been passed down since the Europeans landed on North American soil. They are included in a group that, also, contains music, oral history, and popular beliefs in a culture’s traditions.

The main difference between a tall tale & a legend is a tall tale is an exaggerated untrue story, while a legend is based on a true person or event that has been exaggerated.

As you play the game Am I A Tall Tale Or A Legend ?, you’ll notice how the characters’ stories define whether they are part of a Tall Tale or Legend.

Your addition and/or invention can help you “talk tall” to Tell Me A Tall Tale. Then, you can turn it into a Script for a Play in your Tall Tale Theater.

Included in this July's CLAMDiggers Unit are:

  • front & back covers for booklet use
  • a thematic literature list of trade books
  • a general lesson plan for reading comprehension of the reads
  • (#) hands-on interactive activities with instructions written on an independent upper elementary level

You can utilize this unit as:

  • whole group instruction
  • small group instruction
  • cooperative groups
  • center time activities
  • partner sharing
  • independent study
