This is a short lesson I put together that discusses the beginnings of the American Two Party System. Further, this lessons focus is the different viewpoints of the Federalists (Alexander Hamilton) and the Democratic-Republicans (Thomas Jefferson). When teaching this, students often get confused with who stands for what; thus, I have created a graphic organizer (T-Chart) for students to complete while the teacher lectures using the PowerPoint. After the completion of the lecture, I ask students to respond to a prompt that requires them to use evaluation level-thinking. I use this brief writing assignment as my formative assessment to check for student learning. I have tried to simplify this topic for students as much as possible for both my Government and U.S. History courses.
