This synthesis/RST is geared toward honors and AP students as it discusses whether corruption in the government depletes American values. It has seven reputable sources excerpted to assist students in practicing the arduous task of a source based argument which the PARCC calls the research simulation task. Included is an authentic student model on how to incorporate sources (another "teachable moment" is having the students score the sample using the PARCC rubric).
As with all my other RST, there is tremendous flexibility with how you teach this. It can be completed in class, independently, as a homework assignment, as a cooperative learning activity. There are endless possibilities with the ultimate goal of students using sources to support an original claim. As this is PARCC practice, I use the PARCC rubric to score the essays.
