I try to do at least one gallery walk per unit with my 8th graders, and this is the one I did with them for WWII! In it, students needed to analyze 15 propaganda posters and determine if the central idea was Recruitment, Financing through War Bonds, Conservation of Resources, National Security, Nationalism,or Homefront Efforts.
After, there were six short reflective questions for students to answer either independently, or with their partner. These questions were also great for directing conversation in class.
Included is the student sheet, 15 propaganda posters to post around the room, and the answer sheet. I recommend two minutes per poster.
Because students were asked to identify the central idea of each poster, the ELA department loved this activity too!
