The following activities allow students to explore the topic of whaling during the 19th century. Students will explore primary documents and videos on the topic of American whaling. Student will use this information to create a journal as a sailor aboard a whaling ship during the 1800s.
The following activities will be included in this lesson plan:
A worksheet that allows students to explore a primary document related to whaling in the 1850s. I print out the primary source for my students, but you can also have students complete the assignment online.

The lesson plans can be used individually for short activities on whaling or combined for a week long unit on whaling. An answer sheet is included for the whaling worksheet.
