This material is a set of reading comprehension and vocabulary questions to accompany the novel, Amina’s Voice by Hena Khan. The novel is the story of a Muslim American girl who is struggling to fit in at school while living up to the expectations of her family. She struggles with issues of friendship and jealousy until the community is brought together after an attack on her mosque. The novel is suitable for readers in grades 4, 5 and 6.
The novel study divides the book into 8 assignments covering approximately 25 pages each. Assignment contain factual based questions, questions that require inferences and drawing conclusions as well as questions that prompt students to offer their own opinions of the events of the story. The vocabulary sections of each assignment will help to identify new terms and expand the student’s comprehension. The questions can be used to support discussions of the novel or literature circle discussions.
