My most often dysregulated students are those who always say they don't need to calm down. This lesson presents the need to calm down BEFORE your feeling get too big and out of control. We introduce the idea of body signals, or the messages your brain send to the body. Stopping angry feelings at the basics levels of being bothered or irritated is key. We discuss the use of a tool to identify those signals at various levels and to then use a strategy based at the level. I use this then in conjunction with a lesson on body signals and have students complete a tool similar to what is in this lesson. This is a great intro to use before teaching calming down strategies. It lays the groundwork!
