After many years of hosting elementary music student teachers and practicum students and having to fill out those silly forms that typically have nothing to do with our specific subject and art, I finally decided to come up with my own assessment form of things I believe elementary music student teachers should know how to do to be a successful and well rounded productive music teacher once they set out on their own. Please be advised that this particular form can be tweaked to meet your specific needs, however, being that I am a Kodaly certified music instructor, a lot of the objectives and training that I want my music student teachers to walk away with are geared toward this method of music education so this form was constructed with that concept in mind. Key points that are addressed on this checklist include:
(DISCLAIMER: This form is just a skeleton with basic categories listed to prompt conversation. Specifics and details are not included as these are discussed and decided upon between each individual cooperating teacher and student teacher).
1. Creating technology based lessons.
2. Incorporating children's literature and picture books into music lesson planning.
3. Creating/Composing/Etc. Orff arrangements.
4. Teaching Folk Dancing.
5. And much more....
