I use this easy to assemble 25 page interactive book to engage students while teaching the concept of "where" and to teach (and practice) how to answer "where" questions with a place of location.
Answering these kinds of questions can be a real challenge for our students, but manipulating the relateable places/locations in this book can help make the concept less abstract. Whether students already grasp this concept somewhat or not, this book will give them some practice!
In addition to answering questions, this book also prompts the reader to point to important aspects of the illustrations or act out actions - a fun & interactive part of this activity! Then the book poses a “where” question related to the pictures. question (such as “Where do we eat?” Students can give the answer verbally or children with limited verbal skills can phyically “give” the answer by choosing the appropriate action from the 12 moveable picture choices. The goal is to get the child to pair the picture with a verbal response. If he/she does not offer a verbal response, model it for him/her. The repetitive nature of this book is likely to eventually shape verbal response. Your modeling is key! Because it is natural for children with language deficits to reosrt to visual matching, you will see that I changed images to prevent this tendency. Throughout the book, your repetitive modeling can really drive the concept of "where" home!
Detailed directions for assembly and two more levels of use that make this book more challenging are included. A handy, visual (teaching tool) is included!
If you enjoy it, please kindly leave feedback in my TpT store. I would love your input because I have many other interactive books in the works.
