This lesson contains a complete guided reading worksheet with 38 questions (with answer key) for An Indian Father's Plea by Robert Lake (also known as Medicine Grizzly Bear). Worksheet is great for the Springboard student workbook that has the story "An Indian Father's Plea" and any other literature book that has the same story.
Note: I have TWO other Springboard lessons as well -
Funny in Farsi - can be found here:
and Thanksgiving A Personal History:
It will take about 50-70 minutes for the students to complete this worksheet (depending on the student).
Questions consist of True and False, fill in the blank, multiple choice and short answer.
This worksheet was made with cost effective photocopying in mind. The worksheet uses 2 sheets of paper. You can make front/back copies using only 1 sheet of paper. No staples.
For Springboard users: this does not replace the Springboard level 5 activities. It simply facilitates student independent reading of the story. Once the students are done reading the selection, then the teacher can continue with the Springboard activities. This worksheet helps students read through the story - continue reading below for further explanation.

As a public high school English teacher, the biggest challenge I have is getting students to read in class or at home. Put a book or short story in front of them, they'll look at it for a few seconds and start day dreaming...
Until I stumbled upon something magnificent. Teenagers like accomplishment. These worksheets ask questions while the reader reads. Every couple of sentences, there's another question in true or false, fill in the blank, define, multiple choice formats. As the student reads, boom, another question. They answer it and continue reading. Before you know it, they have finished reading the story and completed all questions for further lessons/discussions.
These worksheets are great for daily lessons, test/quiz grades, extra credit, homework, group work (in pairs of two), substitute teacher lessons, emergency lesson plans, great for ESOL or however you can imagine.
