This handout / printable outlines a whole-book, final essay-style assessment as a post-reading activity for An Inspector Calls by J. B. Priestley. The handout includes:
1) Clear instructions & three sets of five essay questions that address key issues and central concerns of the play.
2) An essay assessment rubric & list of criteria that can be used to easily assess the essay responses (should they be used as an assessment).
3) I've included 2 versions of the instructions & questions.
a) Version 1 presumes that the students can use An Inspector Calls as an open-book source of reference (no notes of any kind are in the student copies, of course).
b) Version 2 presumes that the students do not have access to An Inspector Calls.
- You can use whichever version you like. The assessment criteria are adapted so as to be useful for both versions of the test.
