This quick reading quiz assesses students on whether or not they read Ambrose Bierce's classic short story An Occurrence on Owl Creek Bridge. Reading quizzes help motivate students to complete assigned reading assignments on time and therefore make a teacher's lesson plan more impactful.
Questions are one-word, or one-phrase short answer in order to maximize grading efficiency while also limiting a student's chance of guessing correctly. Questions are also developed to help teachers determine to what extent students understood the assigned reading as well as help students brainstorm pre-discussion thoughts and opinions about the reading.
In addition, all questions are cross-referenced on Cliffnotes, Sparknotes, & Shmoop. Therefore, any students who simply read a summary of the text will not be successful. Ultimately, this will help encourage all students to read their assigned text and not take short-cuts.
If uninterested in reading quizzes, these quetions can be used as post-reading Text Dependent Questions (TDQs) to ensure students go back through the text and re-read key sections.
Quiz questions come complete with answer key.
