This differentiated unit is great for problem solving in teams or independently. Students must work to solve all of the problems of the universe before traveling back to Earth. This unit includes instructions for building a rocket where the students must solve word problems to find the necessary measurements for their rocket. The unit also includes two different levels of a one or two-step word problem for every planet.
First, you can have the students solve word problems and use the included instructions to build their own rocket. Students should use butcher paper when “building” their rocket.
Once the students have built their rocket, then the students can ‘travel’ to each planet to solve the different problems. When the team has solved a problem at a planet correctly, then they will collect a sticker to put on their Mission Map next to that planet. They must earn a sticker at every planet before traveling back to Earth. Earth will be the final planet that they visit.
