This is a fun, engaging, and educationally-sound word-game activity that you can spread out over the semester or year. It is anagram-based activity in Google Slides, where students are shown a word or phrase and they must rearrange the letters to form a humourous response to the original. For example, the Preview provided shows how "The Eyes" transforms into "They See." Complete Answer Key provided. Within this resource are ten "rounds" of the game. This resource lends itself nicely to class team play.
The 10 rounds contained herein are as follows:
After going through several of the game rounds, students then also make their own humour anagram (rubric provided). Ideally, students then share their work with their classmates, turning this lesson (or weekly doing) into an extension activity.
All-in-all, there are 129 Google Slides, as well as a 2-page Anagram Evaluation rubric for the extension assignment.
This is an engaging outside-the-box thinking game for English classes. Even if the students do not come up with the answer, there is fun in the doing, and in the revealing of the correct answer. This resource is a purposeful and educationally-sound brain-teaser you can use as a bell-ringer, if you have an extra few minutes at the end of class, if you want to reward your student with a fun activity, or if you are a substitute and need to engage the students with a ready-to-go activity. Either way, this is a great resource for you!
