I have tried and tested this project with one of my very high achieving grade 6 classes and also with my intermediate students. At the junior level however, this project is perfect for your highly-motivated gifted and near-gifted learners and for any student that is really looking for a challenge.
Essentially, this project is a book report in which students get to choose a French literary classic from the list provided. Each classic is rated according to difficulty, number of pages, and has a short synopsis of what the story is about.
Given the complexity of French literary classics, this project has been scaffolded in order to appropriately guide students through the process of reading the book. I normally like to include guiding questions in all projects because I find that it cuts much of the ambiguity and greatly enhances the over quality of what I receive.
At the end of this project, there is also a rubric in order to facilitate marking.
